Of recognition and nationalism
A local news website reported that three Filipino educators were recognized by the Jilin provincial government in China as outstanding foreign experts "for their outstanding achievements and dedication to China's development in various fields such as the economy, technology, education, and culture". Hats off to Ma. Socorro Rodriguez, Arnel Genzola and Lileth Mesias Reyes! Its stories like this that stirs up the nationalism in Filipinos like me. But as good as this news is, I couldn't help but feel sad that they have to find recognition elsewhere. It got me thinking, would our education system be better if the three teachers rendered service in the country instead of a foreign place? Just a random thought anyways...
